Conservatives: Can't Live With Them, Can't Send Them to Yemen

Conservatives are stuck in the 50’s where everything is black and white.  Sorry Rush et al, but Wally and the Beav aren’t coming back.  The world has color and many many shades of grey.  Whether its Bush and the Neocons “you’re either with us or against us” or the recurring culture war that all abortions are murder, the Conservative movement is a zero sum game.  In order for me to win, you must lose.  That is why I have little patience or concern for these people.
It’s us versus them, good guys versus bad guys, cowboys versus Indians.  This is why John Wayne is loved by the Conservatives and why they had trouble with Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven: the good guy wasn’t perfect, he was damaged and ruthless.
John Bolton, Don Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, and Dick Cheney criticize President Obama because he admonishes our friends (Israel) and challenges our enemies to talk.  That is called diplomacy, but the conservatives call that weakness.
In Arizona, conservatives are trying to erode any legal backing for abortion under any and all circumstances because they cannot possibly understand that pro-choice does not equal pro-abortion.  Instead, they view all pro-choice advocates not as defenders of the law of the land, but as murderers.  How do you have a dialogue under those circumstances?
As Joe Scarborough told Chris Matthews, it isn’t enough to be fiscally responsible, you actually have to hate the President and deny his legitimacy.  You don’t like his policies, that is fine; don’t like his vision, that is fine too.  But to repeatedly attack him on ludicrous assertions regarding his religion, race, citizenship, and parenting…well that’s un-American.  For the record, I also believe that those that want to try Bush as a war criminal are equally off the mark.
Conservatives cannot see a world where gays and lesbians can marry and adopt as freely as heterosexual couples.  Why?  You cannot have what I have, because if you do, you threaten what I have.
The same goes for gun rights.  No restrictions at all.  No waiting period, unlimited weapons, high capacity magazines, assault weapons, no permits, and unlimited access.
Immigration reform?  No way.  Close the border and round up the undocumented while ignoring the facts that the majority of these people contribute to our society.  We can’t come up with a process to bring them into the fold because that would be amnesty and unforgiveable.
So where does that leave us: the culture war of Laugh-in versus Father Knows Best.  Sock it to me.
