Safari 2014 Journal: Eleven Glorious Days

6/3/14

Happy Anniversary! 25 years, hard to believe!  After an emotional (on Eric’s part) exchange of cards we had our final breakfast at the One & Only and Cindy got a hug and took a selfie with her new best friend Pinky, our waitress at Reuben’s.  We said goodbye to the One & Only and told the management that our experience at the aptly named Hotel was memorable and pleasurable stating that many American and European luxury hotels could learn from them.

Our man Thomas collected us and we started our journey to the wine lands.  The 1hr-ish drive took us past several townships and eventually through Stellenbosch, wine land hub, and ending at Le Quartier Francais in Franschhoek or French Corner, a town populated by French Huguenots centuries ago.  The quaint but elegant hotel with lovely gardens offered us a beautiful suite and gifts for our special day.  We had a lovely lunch at ROCA, a Mediterranean cuisine restaurant with exceptional food and view.

But, the main event was the 8-course wine pairing dinner at The Tasting Room at Le Quartier Francais.  This world-renowned restaurant is considered one of the 50 best restaurants in the world year in and year out.  The 3 ½ hour experience included quail, pork belly, oysters and many other courses including a cheese course that was not a fan favorite of the Resnicks.  Nonetheless, it was a dining experience that a Foodie would describe as divine.
