Westboro Baptist Church and the Supremes

Waiting to see how the Supreme Court rules in the case of the heinous church that protests at the funerals of our dead servicemen under the protection of the 1st Amendment.  Ultimately does the 1st Amendment extend protection to funerals?  Should SCOTUS even have agreed to hear the case?
