Today marks the one year anniversary of the horrific shooting at a Tucson, Arizona Safeway supermarket.   The shooting occurred during an appearance by Democratic Congresswoman Gabby Giffords.   These appearances were part of Giffords’ program to meet her constituents and talk about issues affecting their everyday lives; the purest sense of government by the people for the people.   Representation in its simplest form and manner; what Schoolhouse Rock and elementary school civics classes taught us.   None of that is remembered, that day is remembered as the day a mentally ill young man slipped through the cracks of our healthcare and criminal systems and committed a massacre. Unemployment for college graduates went down but unemployment for non-college graduates went up.   Republicans say they are for creating jobs but want to cut Pell grants.   Obviously they are for creating jobs….somewhere else. Many on the left are disappointed in President Obama.   He hasn’t embraced the OWS movement, he hasn’t moved on Card Check, he isn’t pushing for immigration reform, he is prosecuting an illegal war in Pakistan, Guantanamo Bay remains open, no Wall Street executives have been charged, he hasn’t abolished fracking, Keystone pipeline still isn’t dead, he compromises too much, we don’t have a public option, we don’t have the Dream Act, the stimulus was too small, his chief of staff isn’t Liberal, he isn’t Hillary, he smokes, he golfs, he hasn’t fired Geithner, etc.   Celebrities like Cheadle, Damon, and Winfrey are disappointed and may not support him like they did in 2008.   Arianna Huffington has even said she could consider supporting Jon Huntsman.   Well, here is my advice to the acutely disappointed: Go run into your bedroom, slam the door, say you’re not coming out, and hold your breath pouting.   Then grow the hell up and think about who you are helping and w...

OK, I get that its first and it can establish momentum and that shouldn’t be overlooked or underrated.   Clearly the Iowa Caucus cannot crown the nominee, but it can kill a candidacy.   If a candidate goes all out in Iowa and finishes no better than 4 th , they are likely toast, are you reading Michele Bachmann?   If you finish in the top four and have a deep war chest, you can clearly hang in there for some time and pick your battles.   The January contests offer an interesting series of battlegrounds.   Candidates will have to kiss social conservative babies, eat corndogs, and pander to some of the nations most socially conservative in Iowa.   In New Hampshire, straight talking genuine candidates will do well, though Romney’s home field advantage will be difficult to overcome.   South Carolina brings out southern conservatism in full force where he says the nastiest things about President Obama will surely do well.   The big ticket is Florida. ...

Ron Paul:   Says he is a libertarian and the defender of freedom.   Yet the man who would legalize drugs opposes abortion.   So the crack pipe is the symbol of freedom but the uterus is government property.   Mr. Paul espouses a U.S.   Global disengagement when the world is hyper connected.   If isolationism sank the USSR 20 years ago, what would happen to the U.S. today?   Finally, Dr. Paul believes in delegating federal power to the states.   With state fiscal situation direr than the federal situation, delegating responsibility to the states will be the quickest way to kill any hope of education, welfare, and healthcare reform.   Paul is the perfect candidate for 1781 to promote the Articles of Confederation; he is the most out of touch in 2012.
