End of the month clearance sale

While everyone is focusing on Charlie Sheen’s rant and rage and often incoherent interview last week with Alex Jones, not enough people are focusing on the bigger question:  Who is Alex Jones?  Here is a sampler of what the syndicated radio talk show host espouses:
-        President Obama is an Indonesian
-        US Government was behind 9/11
-        US Government is giving its land to the United Nations
-        Water fluoridation is a government mind control program
-        Claims the government wants to merge the US with Mexico and Canada
-        Federal Reserve is owned by the Bank of England
And those are the least crazy of Jones’ theories.  Yep he is a great match for Sheen’s madness.
Speaking of nuts.  Louis Farrakhan has emerged from his self imposed exile.  “What you are looking at in Tunisia, in Egypt … Libya, in Bahrain … what you see happening there … you’d better prepare because it will be coming to your door.”   Farrakhan also called on President Obama to allow protesters to march, urging the president not to attack innocent people when they do. The 77-year-old said in reference to his friend Muammar Gaddafi no leader has been loved by 100 percent of his people.  One day your leading a million man march, the next day your getting your meds from Nurse Ratched.

So the GOP has targeted the usual Democrat programs such as Pell Grants, heating oil subsidies for the poor, NPR, and OBS.  Meanwhile, racetrack owners received tax breaks worth $45 million in 2010 and 2011, aimed at helping them make improvements to their facilities.  So Bubba gets his subsidy and grandma freezes in New York.
Bill O’Reilly was trying to make the point that states with low unemployment rates are that way because they are also right-to-work states.  O’Reilly is correct in that the states with low unemployment rates are indeed right-to-work states.  The problem with his conclusion is something known as causation versus correlation.   If I tell you during the summer that consumption of ice cream goes up and the number deaths by drowning goes up, is it proper to conclude that increased ice cream consumption leads to increased drowning?  Of course not, there is no causal relationship here.  If I conclude that ice cream consumption and deaths by drowning go up together because both things are more common in hot summer months, I am saying these things correlate.  Big difference Bill’O.
Mike Huckabee is another Conservative who has difficulty in logical arguments.  One of his arguments against gay marriage is "There is a quantified impact of broken families, [There is a] $300 billion dad deficit in America every year...that's the amount of money that we spend as taxpayers to pick up the pieces because dads are derelict in their duties."  Huh?  You’re against gay marriage because of ‘traditional’ marriage deadbeat dads?

TEA Partiers Suck at History

More from the facts-challenged Michelle Bachmann: "the very founders that wrote those documents worked tirelessly until slavery was no more in the United States....Men like John Quincy Adams, who would not rest until slavery was extinguished in the country."  Let’s see JQA died in 1848 and Lincoln didn’t deliver the emancipation proclamation until 1863.  Oh and one key reason why we even have a Constitution?  The Founding Fathers knew that slavery was such a toxic topic that it had to be kicked down the road (again and again) in order to get ratification.  It took 75 years after constitutional ratification before slavery was abolished.  Just because you wear a tri-corn hat, doesn’t mean you know shit about American History.
John Boehner and the rest of the Conservatives have accused President Obama of overreaching on his decision not to enforce the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).  Did Lincoln overreach with Emancipation proclamation?  Did Truman overreach with his executive order to integrate the armed forces?  Now I am not equating Emancipation and desegregation to DOMA in terms of scope, but I am saying that there are times when social injustice needs presidential action; funny how in all cases it was mostly the southern boys who went apoplectic.  Yeah, it’s funny.
The complete absence of the rule of law in Venezuela is getting to be ridiculous.  Chavez is imprisoning members of parliament, judges, and opposition mayors from some of Venezuela’s biggest cities.  Perhaps if this country was more worried about these matters instead of the latest Sheen, Lohan, and Spears escapades we could pressure on the regime via sanctions and stopping US companies such as Avon, Ford, and Colgate from doing business there.  I know we have our own major domestic problems, but we can’t be taken seriously as the defenders of democracy when we let it become secondary to our business interests.
Who said it? “By outlawing Solidarity, a free trade organization to which an overwhelming majority of Polish workers and farmers belong, they have made it clear that they never had any intention of restoring one of the most elemental human rights—the right to belong to a free trade union...”
a)      Jimmy Carter
b)      Walter Mondale
c)      Ronald Reagan
d)      Bill Clinton
e)      Jimmy Hoffa
The answer is (c), the same man that Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker extolled as his hero to bust up the public unions.
A 27 year old New Mexico woman travelling from London through Baltimore may have exposed fellow travelers to measles.  No word yet from any of the major airlines of possible new fees for carrying on communicable diseases.

DiggAcademy Awards Predictions & Commentary

Best Picture
The Fighter
Kings Speech  - Will Win
Black Swan
Social Network - Should Win
True Grit
The Kids are Alright
Inception
127 Hours
Toy Story 3
Winters Bone

Commentary:  King’s Speech had great performances by Rush and Firth, but so did every other nominated movie.  King’s was a fine movie but if it wins it will be the biggest travesty since Shakespeare In Love bested Saving Private Ryan for Best Picture in 1998.  Social Network was well paced, entertaining, and gripping.  For the record, if Best Picture goes to the most enjoyable experience, I would rate The Fighter, Social Network, Black Swan, True Grit, and Inception over King’s Speech.
Best Actor
Colin Firth – Will Win/Should Win
Jeff Bridges
Javier Bardem
James Franco
Jesse Eisenberg

The above commentary notwithstanding, Colin Firth was incredible and deserves the Oscar.  I like Jesse Eisenberg, but after seeing Zombieland and Adventureland (Perhaps Social Network should have been named Facebookland)I am seeing the same character a la Michael Cera.

Best Actress
Annette Bening
Nicole Kidman
Natalie Portman – Will Win/Should Win
Michelle Williams
Jennifer Lawrence

If a King’s Speech win is a travesty, then worse yet would be if Annette Bening wins Best Actress over Natalie Portman.  No comparison at all.  Portman’s personal commitment to the film and her portrayal of a dancer’s descent into madness was magnificent.  Full disclosure: her scene with Mila Kunis wasn’t too bad either.
Best Supporting Actor
Christian Bale – Will Win/Should Win
Geoffrey Rush
Mark Ruffalo
Jeremy Renner
John Hawkes

All of these performances, yes I did see them all, were fabulous and nomination worthy.  Renner was the best part of The Town, Hawkes continues to impress since his days on Deadwood, Rush is always great, and Ruffalo has mastered the role of socially stunted adult.  But Bale was tremendous as the crack addict Dicky Eklund; the latest in great performances starting with his portrayal of Jim in Spielberg’s Empire of the Sun back in 1987.

Best Supporting Actress
Melissa Leo – Will Win
Amy Adams
Hailee Steinfeld – Should Win
Helena Bonham Carter
Jacki Weaver

I have been a fan of Leo since her days on Homicide and her performance in Frozen River was Oscar worthy.  Along with her costar Amy Adams from The Fighter, this year’s performances were exceptional and I wouldn’t be disappointed if either wins.  Carter was OK.  But after watching young Steinfeld hold her own against Bridges, Damon, and Brolin in True Grit, I have to say it was the best performance.  Having to recite those Charles Portis lines as directed and written for the screen by the Coen Brothers was a joy to watch.

Best Director
David Fincher (Social Network) – Will Win/Should Win
Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan)
Tom Hooper (King’s Speech)
David O. Russell (The Fighter)
Joel and Ethan Coen (True Grit)

If Social Network loses out to King’s Speech, then it is likely that Fincher will get the much deserved Oscar for directing.  His flashback laced production brought out the best in his cast and that is what directing is all about.  All five directors deserve credit for creating outstanding visions of the respective scripts.  Biggest disappointment is the fact that Hooper is being talked up as a possible winner when Aronofsky’s work on Black Swan was superior.  As for the Coen brothers, has there been a more consistent body of work by any individual or team?

Best Documentary
Restrepo
GasLand
Inside Job – Will Win/Should Win
Exit Through The Gift Shop
Waste Land

I know documentaries typically get little notice, but thanks to An Inconvenient Truth and the work of Michael Moore (love him or hate him he raises the importance of social issues) these films are essential to the film industry and society.  Restrepo and GasLand were both exceptional, but Inside Job is the clear winner for best documentary and more significantly, the most important movie of the year.

New Feature: Sunday Talk Show Recap

John McCain wants to start another war in Libya by calling for a no fly zone and recognizing a provisional government in Benghazi.   This war mongering dinosaur needs to STHU.  Just like his rush to invade Iraq, call for bombing Iran, and supporting Georgia in its local squabble over the province of South Ossetia  that led to Russian intervention and Grandpa’s calling for NATO action.  The man is dangerous and needs to retire somewhere far far away.
Wisconsin Governor Walker failed to make his argument about eliminating collective bargaining for public unions on non-salary benefits.  His claim that his need to neuter the unions is for fiscal balance is hollow as unions have met the Governor’s demands and his clear attacks on public employees normally supportive of Democrats  (teachers) versus those that are supportive of Republicans (Fire and Police).   The politics of budgets.
South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley wants to throw the Wisconsin State Democratic Senators out of office for leaving the state and going to Illinois.  Memo to Palin-lite, worry about your own state, and we do have laws in the nation regarding how elected officials are to serve and be treated.  For the record, South Carolina is facing an $877Million 2012 budget deficit, a 17.4% shortfall compared to the 2011 budget.   Tea Partiers who live in glass houses…
Joe Walsh, Freshman Tea Partier from Illinois, thinks that every dollar not spent by the government is a dollar that goes to the private sector.  Huh?  If that dollar the government is going to spend is to be used to reduce the deficit, how does that dollar end up in the private sector?  In fact that dollar not being spent will have the opposite effect because it is money that does not end up in the economy.  This guy is living a ‘Life of Illusion’.
Jan Brewer spewed her latest drivel on This Week on ABC.  No facts just usual B/S.  Highlight was during her statements on Wisconsin’s senators, she was cut off by an advertisement for Mesa RV.  Perfect.  Her best quote “Government is a necessary evil”…great quote from a GOVERNOR.
The sharks are already starting to turn on another.  Mike Huckabee has fired a broad side at fellow 2012 GOP hopeful Mitt Romney with this “I think it's (Massachusetts health c are reform) not a killer for him. But he has to say either 'I love it,' 'I hate it,' or, 'Hey I tried it, it didn't work and that's why I would say to you, let's not do it nationally.’”  I am thinking Huckabee’s dislike of Romney is a religious issue above everything else.
The difference between New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker: Christie has been upfront with his plans and can actually make his point; he will support Democrat ideas if he agrees with them, and doesn’t need to vilify his opponent to make his point. His push to get the public unions to start paying into their healthcare and pension plans is a legitimate position AND he is doing it without feeling he has to destroy the union’s right to collective bargaining.

A New Reality Show: America's Biggest Douche

Georgia legislator Bobby Franklin may be the biggest douche on the planet:
1)      Sponsored a bill that would require all taxes to be paid on gold and silver.
2)      Wants to eliminate toll roads
3)      Wants to eliminate income taxes
4)      Wants to eliminate mandatory vaccinations,
5)       Wants state rape laws to change the term ‘rape victim’ to ‘accuser’.
6)      Wants to call miscarriages ‘prenatal murder’  "The State of Georgia has the duty to protect all innocent life from the moment of conception until natural death," the bill stated. "We know that life begins at conception. After nearly four decades of legal human prenatal murder, it is now abundantly clear that the practice has negatively impacted the people of this state in many ways, including economic, health, physical, psychological, emotional, and medical well-being."
7)      Wants to abolish drivers license in Georgia.  "Free people have a common law and constitutional right to travel on the roads and highways that are provided by their government for that purpose," Franklin's legislation states. "Licensing of drivers cannot be required of free people, because taking on the restrictions of a license requires the surrender of an inalienable right."
8)      Thinks gays are like drug dealers.  "The Bible says it's a capital offense," Franklin said of homosexuality. "You want someone with unrepentant criminal behavior? And it's not just that, neither should adulterers, neither should thieves, neither should a lot of things. The church is full of sinners, but we're told in 1st Corinthians it rattled off the homosexual, the adulterer, the thief, the liar, and such were some of you, but you've been washed, you've been justified and so forth. It's not what you were. You're not punishing a thought. But do you want an unrepentant drug dealer in the military? Same thing."
Not making this up folks.  This is a democratically elected official from Marietta, Georgia.

Can we Oursource Palin?

Batshit Bachmann is at it again.  Sarah Stoesz, who heads the Planned Parenthood operation in my state of Minnesota, said she recently opened three express centers in wealthy Minnesota suburbs and shopping centers and malls and places where women are doing their grocery shopping, picking up Starbucks, living their daily lives and stopping off for an abortion.”  You would think the abortion center would provide complementary scones and lattes.  Does Planned Parenthood have a drive-thru?

Speaking of Right Wing Lunacy, it seems Sarah Palin will be getting her $100,000 appearance fee from India Today Magazine and will be speaking in India this March.  Some things that come to mind:
1)      Is she in search of outsourced votes?
2)      She heard she was speaking in New Dehli and thought it meant Carnegie Deli opened a location in Anchorage.
3)      Danny Boyle is shooting a sequel to his Oscar winning movie.  The sequel is called Sled Dog Wasillanaire.
How sleazy and full of crap is Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker?  In his punk’d interview with Buffalo’s Ian Murphy, Walker goes on to: compare himself to Reagan (wrongly as Reagan was legally justified to fire the ATCs), hope for some violence through planted agitators to make the demonstrators look bad but so bad that he came across badly, look forward to a big celebratory party at Koch’s California compound, and figure out how he could trick the Democrat Senators in returning and then force the vote.  To answer the stated question, Walker is so sleazy, Charlie Sheen had to take a shower after meeting him.
The dynamic duo of Mike Huckabee and Jon Voight were in Jerusalem talking up Israel’s right to all of the Promised Land.  Huckabee went on to say "There are vast amounts of territory that are in the hands of Muslims, in the hands of Arabs. Maybe the international community can come together and accommodate.”  He said any peace agreement has to recognize that "the Jewish people have indigenous rights to the land in which they occupy and live and it goes back not 60 years or 80 years but it goes back 3,500 years."  When will Fundamentalist Evangelicals realize the rule of law supersedes their rule of God while they are on earth?  The UN Declaration of 1948 is more pertinent that the Old Testament.  In Huckabee’s world the Assyrians, Babylonians, Philistines, Canaanites, Hittites, and other ancient people would also have land rights?  I am the first guy to defend Israel and its right to security, but Huckabee is a dangerous fanatic.  Please run for President.

Tonight Following Glenn Beck on Fox, Crazy World With Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Iran’s Ahmadinejad released this statement following days of violent crackdowns against protesters in Arab Bahrain, Libya, and Yemen: "How can a leader subject his own people to a shower of machine-guns, tanks and bombs? How can a leader bomb his own people, and afterwards say 'I will kill anyone who says anything?'".  I seriously want — from all heads of states — to pay attention to their people and cooperate, to sit down and talk, and listen to their words. Why do they act so badly that their people need to apply pressure for reforms?”  When word of this hypocritical statement reached the desk of Roger Ailes, the Faux News President screamed to head his head of Human Resources “He’s just what we we’re looking for after Hannity on weeknights.  Does he have an agent?”
Stay tuned for more on this story.  It appears that the U.S. military was allegedly conducting psy ops (psychological operations) against visiting dignitaries to the Afghanistan Theater in the hopes of convincing these visitors, including U.S. lawmakers McCain, Lieberman, Levin, Franken, and others,  to support the war effort.  Psy ops are traditionally used by forces to convince the other side to give up the will to continue fighting.  But this initiative against US citizens, ahhh yes it’s against the law, was the brain child of Lt. Gen William Caldwell who pressured soldiers to conduct these operations.  Oh, Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff was also targeted by Caldwell’s crew; I guess Caldwell will be joining McChrystal in retirement somewhere.  Paging Laurence Harvey and Frank Sinatra.
President Obama has instructed the Justice Department not to enforce the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).  According to Attorney General Eric Holder President Barack Obama has concluded that the administration cannot defend the federal law that defines marriage as only between a man and a woman. He noted that the congressional debate during passage of the Defense of Marriage Act "contains numerous expressions reflecting moral disapproval of gays and lesbians and their intimate and family relationships - precisely the kind of stereotype-based thinking and animus the (Constitution's) Equal Protection Clause is designed to guard against."  Now the President isn’t necessarily personally for same-sex marriage, but he is against denying benefits for people.  He is also for making sure his base gets something to get revved up about while he is forced to compromise on a number of Liberal issues during the budget cutting debate.
This one is a head scratcher.  You probably saw this story in the news in January.  Mississippi Governor  Haley Barbour granted Jamie Scott an early prison release because she suffers from kidney failure, but he agreed to let sister transplant kidney donor Gladys Scott go on the condition she follow through on an offer to donate a kidney to her sister. Now the proposed kidney transplant that won two Mississippi sisters their freedom from prison can't take place until one quits smoking and they lose a combined 160 pounds. These sisters have been in prison for 16 years.  Question: what the heck are they serving in the Mississippi prison system that resulted in these women becoming 100 and 60 pounds overweight respectively?  The homeless, indigent, and impoverished must be jealous.
Former New York Gubernatorial candidate Jimmy McMillan of the Rent is Too Damn High party has set his sights on the presidency and has switched his allegiance to the Republican Party.  "I'm here to wake the Republican Party up and tell all these Republicans who keep running for office that you have nothing to offer the American public," McMillan said. "Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Donald Trump is my dog, don't get me wrong...but they have nothing to offer. They're just talking."  Can you see Jimmy debating Palin?  “I can’t see Russia from my house, cuz I can’t afford a house, cuz the rent’s too damn high.”
Charlie Sheen goes on a tropical vacation near the Bahamas with porn star Bree Olson, ‘nanny’ Natalie Kenly, and ex-wife Brooke Mueller.  It’s official, he is now the world’s most interesting man.  Somewhere Jon Cryer is crying himself to sleep.

Conservatives are CooCoo for Cocoa Puffs

Each morning I wake up and I wonder if I will have any material for my anti-conservative catharsis, and voila (that’s French, Tea Party Putzes) sure as the sun rises I have a whole cornucopia of conservative craziness.
Former Tea Party Express leader Mark Williams is seeking volunteers to pose with him as members of the Service Employees International Union at a Sacramento, California, rally, to act like angry fools and get the union workers bad publicity from "lazy reporters".  Williams is obviously pulling a page from the James O’Keefe Acorn hoax playbook for making shit up as you go.
Williams is a former member of the Tea Party Express because of the following 2010 statements:
·        Williams had labeled the Manhattan boro president a "Jewish Uncle Tom" and President Obama an "Indonesian Muslim turned welfare thug."
·        In the voice of slaves, Williams wrote: "Mr. Lincoln, you were the greatest racist ever. We had a great gig. Three squares, room and board, all our decisions made by the massa in the house.” "We Coloreds have taken a vote and decided that we don't cotton to that whole emancipation thing. Freedom means having to work for real, think for ourselves, and take consequences along with the rewards. That is just far too much to ask of us Colored People and we demand that it stop!"
·        He went on to say blacks don't want taxes cut because "how will we Colored People ever get a wide screen TV in every room if non-coloreds get to keep what they earn?"
Sarah Palin the narcissist created a fake facebook friend ‘Lou Sara’ who was Sarah and Bristol’s biggest fan.  She felt she needed this to help validate her words and deeds?  Who knows maybe the doppelganger would have completed its term.
How about Indiana Assistant Attorney General Jeff Cox, or should I say former AAG?  Cox was fired when it became public that he engaged in a twitter exchange with a Mother Jones reporter and suggested that the Wisconsin police use live ammunition and deadly force against the thugs protesting in the capitol building in Madison.  It seems Cox as a history of Conservative rants calling President Obama “incompetent and treasonous” and former labor secretary Robert Reich a “Nazi Brown Shirt.”  On the plus side, Muammar Gaddafi is looking for guys just like you.
Back to Palin.  She had the following to say back in 2007 when she was Alaskan Governor : “Whereas, during October, organizations throughout our state will promote the importance of breastfeeding. This year, in conjunction with World Breastfeeding Week — October 1 through 7 — the State of Alaska will support networks that encourage and promote breastfeeding in all communities.”  This week she took a shot at the First Lady with “It's no wonder Michelle Obama is telling everybody you need to breast feed your babies ... the price of milk is so high!".  Now, I’ve never given birth before, but I am pretty sure, babies don’t drink milk.  Unfunny hypocritical hack.
How about Bachmann’s latest on solving our nation’s fiscal problems: "We need to simply tell people the facts, like Glenn Beck, with that chalkboard, that man can explain anything. I think if we give Glenn Beck the numbers, he can solve this."  Really.  Sounds like Phineas J. Whoopie.  In the photo below are (L-R) Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, and Glenn Beck.

Conservatives: Is There a Rosetta Stone for Crazy?

Clarence Thomas celebrated his 5th anniversary of not speaking during a court argument.  According to The Week over the course of these five years, he has offered up the following reasons: 1) Being self-conscious about his accent; 2) Feeling that the bench already asks enough questions; 3) Thinking that another justice will inevitably ask any question he might pose; 4) Believing that he learns more by listening than by talking; and 5) Feeling that it's "counterproductive" to interrupt lawyers in the middle of their arguments.   I wonder if this condition is contagious to other conservatives.
Michelle Bachmann: “Our Peace Prize-winning president is very busy bowing these days to kings. He is bending down to dictators, and he is brown-nosing the elites that are in Europe, and he's babying the jihadists who are following Sharia-compliant terrorism. He is callow and confused and inconsistent in his response to the Egyptian crisis, and to the uprisings in Iran, and to the terrorist threats…And he's accomplishing something nobody thought even possible: He's making Jimmy Carter look like a Rambo tough-guy.”  Is there a Rosetta Stone for Crazy?
Rush Limbaugh attacks Michelle Obama because she eats ribs?  Good one.  Oxy addicts who live in meth houses shouldn’t throw stoners.
Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker on abortion: “I am 100% pro-life and believe in protecting life from conception to natural death. As governor, I will protect the sanctity of all human life.”  Mr. Walker wants to crush organized labor on behalf of his masters the Koch Brothers and feels a woman should bear the brunt of a pregnancy from rape or incest.  This guy isn’t from the 1950’s, he’s from the 1920’s.
Arizona Representative Steve Montenegro is sponsoring a bill that it makes it illegal to perform an abortion based on gender or race of the fetus.  Is that a problem in Arizona?  Well according to Montenegro, there was an article in the Economist that documenting the anti-female “gender-cide” practice of aborting female babies and he also referenced a Planned Parenthood article stating that 42% of black babies are aborted.  Mr. Montenegro did not disclose that the Economist article was referring to China and India and when pressed for the details on the Planned Parenthood study he couldn’t deliver the report.  Montenegro went on to tell reporters that he was the mayor and was married to Morgan Fairchild…yeah that’s the ticket.
Conservatives…the golden goose of Diggapedia material.

Doc Holiday would call Arizona crazy.

I think Bill Clinton looks to George H.W. Bush as the father he never had, while conversely H.W. looks at Clinton as the son he wished he had. (That one comes from Mrs. Diggapedia)
Jesse James to pen memoir…who cares.
The Inconvenient Truth about healthcare.  Professor Katherine Baicker, Professor of Health Economics at Harvard: “There is no painless way to contain rising healthcare spending.  Limits on what treatments are covered by public programs or private insurance; payment reform so hospitals and doctors are not necessarily paid more for carrying out more procedures; and, in some cases, more copayments by patients may all be needed.”  Tough love, but we are headed towards rationing because we can’t afford the current trajectory.  Anybody know what an MRI costs?  Nope, because it’s covered by insurance.  That folks is the problem.
An update to the February 14th posting about the conviction of Arizona Minuteman leader Shawna Forde: the Pima County Attorney's Office said Tuesday the Tucson jury returned the death penalty verdict.  She now becomes the third woman on Arizona's death row.  Forde was convicted of first-degree murder and other charges in the May 2009 home invasion.  The victims were twenty-nine-year-old Raul Flores and his 9-year-old daughter, Brisenia.  Death penalty is too good for this heinous monster.
Still in Arizona.  A Phoenix jury convicted Iraqi immigrant Faleh Hassan Almaleki  of second-degree murder Tuesday for running over and killing his daughter in a case termed an "honor killing",  Almaleki  carried out the attack because he believed his daughter had become too Westernized.   Fundamentalists secular or religious are all too dangerous and need to be contained.
Indiana pulls a Wisconsin: more Big Ten anti-union Dems on the Run antics.  This time the Republican Governor shows leadership, and dare I say it; looks Presidential?  Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels, a potential 2012 GOP Presidential candidate, did not send the state police to locate the missing Indiana Democratic Caucus and he also asked the Republican-controlled legislature to set aside any motions to strip the public unions of their collective bargaining powers.  Thumbs up Mr. Governor, perhaps your fellow Big Ten Governors Kasich and Walker will get the message.
Bad omen for Obama and the Democrats in 2012 as the number of registered Democrats has fallen and now states that were Democratic locks are now leans or toss-ups.  But before the Republicans start popping their champagne corks, they need to keep in mind that those Democrats, like yours truly, who switched to Independent will gladly pull the lever for Mr. Obama if the GOP nominates an Uber Conservative.

Can Palin see Libya from her house?

I can already here the chants from Palin and the rest of the gas and oil crowd that we need to drill more offshore and in Alaska because we are so dependent on Mideast oil and the recent unrest there is jeopardizing our national interests.  Also, the crisis in Libya is already causing major increases in crude oil prices.  Unfortunately, that is only half of the truth.  The price of oil/barrel and ultimately the price at the pump will spike because commodities traders are now trying to cover their short positions by buying oil long.  In English, commodity traders were betting oil was going to be going down and now are betting heavily it will go up.  When there are a lot of long bets the price increases from the regional tumult get further exacerbated.
Looking at the tables below, you can see that in the top table that summarizes oil imports into the US Libya does not even appear.  While in the 2nd table, Libya doesn’t even crack the top 20 in global production.  Now I realize there is a regional impact going on, but keep in mind our national storage reserves are very high and we are the world’s number three producer, something that is lost on many.  If they could figure out away to justify a price increase on every time Lindsay Lohan gets arrested, they would.
